Purpose of the website

This website was commenced in January 2014.  It’s purpose is to provide information about two families:

  • the ancestors of Geoffrey James Williams (1951) and
  • the ancestors of Julia Ann Williams (nee Billington – 1952).

While there is no genealogical link between these two families, both families are very important to me.  The Williams family became very important to me when I married Geoff in January 2008 and Geoff’s children, their spouses and his grandchildren have become my  family as well.  Indeed the idea for the website came from my desire to provide a legacy to our grandchildren and I hope that in time one of the younger family members will take over the responsibility for developing this family history in the future.

My own family history has always been interesting to me.  As the family is quite diverse I wanted to include a gallery of photos of our ancestors as well as provide stories of some of my ancestors whom I have come to love and admire through my research of them.  In writing these stories I intend including information and photos which enable these stories to be read in context. An additional purpose of this website is to provide a gallery of historical photographs so that they are available to all family members.  If family members require high quality copies of these photos please contact me directly using the contact form on this website and I will prepare CD or jump drive for you.

I also hope that family members will provide additional information and photos that can be added over time.

The Billington family has proven to be an enigma.  While I have been able to trace my paternal grandmother’s heritage, I have been unable to find the origins of my paternal grandfather and his family.  There is therefore a distinct hope that someone provides the information required to unlock this enigma.

As new information is developed relevant family members will be invited to view it and comment on it through the Guest page.

I also welcome family members to contribute stories about or the history of  their family members (who are no longer living) and I will upload them onto the site.

Ancestry.com.au

My research started over two years ago when I started documenting the family tree on ancestry.com.au.  This is still a project on progress and is designated as a private family tree.  If you would like access to the family tree please contact me via the contact form.

I am excited about starting this project and wonder where it will take me.  The last two years of research has been both interesting and rewarding.

I hope you enjoy journeying into our history with me.
